Oven Roasted Turkey Legs with Vegetables

  • 3 turkey drumsticks
  • 3 large potatoes cut in chunks
  • 3 carrots cut in chunks (peeled)
  • 1 large onion (cut in chunks)
  • 1 sage sprig 
  • 9-15 small thyme sprigs
  • 3 rosemary sprigs
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Aluminum foil 

Preheat the oven to 350ºF

Remember to wash all the vegetables before cutting them into chunks. Divide all vegetables in three sections with the same amount of potatoes, carrots and onion chunks.

Combine the butter with the olive oil and the garlic, heat it up just until the butter is melted.

With a small knife, try to loosen the skin from each turkey leg.

Brush the turkey legs with the butter mixture, then season with salt and pepper on all sides.  

Cut three large pieces of aluminum foil.

Place a turkey leg on a piece of aluminum foil, and top it with a portion of the vegetables, top this with a sprig of rosemary, a few sprigs of thyme and two leaves of sage, also add two teaspoons of the butter mixture and season with salt and pepper to taste. Wrap with the foil.  Repeat the steps with the rest of the turkey legs

Place the wrapped turkey in a baking sheet, and bake them at 350ºF for 50 minutes.

After 50 minutes,  set the oven temperature to 450ºF.

Un wrap the turkey legs, and continue to bake for another 5-10 more minutes or until the the turkey is well cooked.

The internal temperature of the cooked turkey legs should be 175ºF.  Once the legs reach that temperature, they are ready.

Serve them with all the vegetables, and some rice.
